Thinning of the Herd I had the very unpleasant experience of having a client say that the hurricane is "the thinning of the herd." And further that the victims shouldn't be helped because they "should have known to get out." I am willing to pursue this line of logic. So, here we go---Anyone who believes that personal responsibility rules over everything and anything should send a letter to their Auto Insurance Company. Just to let the Insurance Company know that if they are in an auto accident and it is their fault, only reimburse the damage of others. Do not send medical help, an ambulance or anything. Because if a mistake is made by the policy-holder, let's say a bad decision, that results in injury to the policy-holder (driver) well tough luck. You should have learned how to drive better! Can we take it a step further? How about you get a tire blow-out? Again, you should have been more responsible than to have a bad tire. You should have replaced your tire more often. Or been more responsible than to have no money, or to be deathly ill with no way to leave a hurricane zone. Again, tough luck. I simply cannot believe that anyone who calls themself a human being can watch the news and say, "Well, good it's the thinning of the herd." Are you kidding? I mean, really, Are You Kidding? I know that I probably sound naive. Peter and I were maligned and slandered in the worst way by my mother-in-law, so the callousness of strangers should not shock me. But it still shocks me. And I just hate that side of some people. We are all human beings, we all deserve compassion, and if you believe in God, we are all made in His image. At the very least, we are all Americans. For Goodness Sake!! Thinning of the Herd is a horrible, horrible thing to say and\or think. And I pray that if anything even close to the hurricane afflicts my family, we find people to help us who are actual human beings and not just look-a-like facsimiles.
