Tony Jaa and Muay Thai                            September 20, 2006

Last year I discovered Tony Jaa's movie "Ong Bak" because in some way Luc Bessson was connected to it and I was Googling Luc Besson.  I ordered it online because movies like that never show in Cincinnati.  We absolutely loved it.  I am a huge fan of martial arts movies.

Tony Jaa is the main actor and performs martial arts moves using Muay Thai.  Muay Thai is an ancient Thai martial art that is both beautiful and vicious.

When the previews for "The Protector," Tony Jaa's latest movie, were shown I was worried that we would have to wait for it to come out on DVD, but it came to the Kings Island theater...a pleasant surprise.  We went to see it and it was really awesome.  If you are not a fan of martial arts movies, this is not for you.  However, Tony Jaa performs his own stunts and he is an inspiration.

Every time I watch one of his movies I feel kind of ashamed that I do not use my body the way that it can be used.  Even at my tip-top shape I could never come close to Tony Jaa.  He expresses the beauty, peace, strength and power that the human body contains when he practices Muay Thai.  I am amazed every time I see him move.  I hope that he continues to make many more movies and they are shown in the American theaters because it is an amazing and different experience seeing him on the big screen, even though I cannot rewind and watch his moves over and over again.
